Submit a Dataset
Are you ready to submit?
Before you begin, it may be helpful to consult our policies and submission guidelines and prepare the following information:
- You have ready all associated data, code, and supporting documentation you plan to deposit (for datasets under 25 GBs, you will upload at the bottom of the submission form)
- You have created a README file (required) to help users understand your data’s content and context. Download the RDR template to get started.
- You have organized your files as follows (see our organization tips to learn more)
- For simple datasets: Your files are in a flat hierarchy (no folders) (recommended for 30 files or less) and all files have unique file names
- For complex datasets: Your folders are packaged (zipped, tarred, gzipped, etc.) prior to upload (keep README file external to the zipped folders)
- You have the metadata needed to describe your data
- You have confirmed that open access is appropriate for your data. The RDR cannot accept any data that is classified as sensitive or restricted.
- If your data are from human participants, you have ready a copy of your informed consent form and associated IRB protocol (not just the approval). The curation team will ask to review these documents prior to publishing your data to ensure there are no barriers to open access data sharing. Note: these will be kept as private administrative files and will not be visible to the public. For more information, see our Human Data Policy.
Size Note: The RDR accepts datasets in any format up to 300 GBs. Datasets under 25 GBs may be uploaded via the web-form, while datasets over 25 GB will be transferred via Globus. If your data are larger than 300 GBs, please contact us at datamanagement@duke.edu to discuss potential options.
Upload tips via the web form: For best performance, it is recommended not to upload files while on the Duke VPN and with a stable network connection. If you have any issues uploading your files, contact us at datamanagement@duke.edu.
