- A high spatial resolution rain gauge network has been installed in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park (GSMNP) in the southern Appalachians since 2008. 45 stations were equipped with tipping bucket (TB) gauges operating for the longest continuous period, distributed at low to high elevations (from 280 to 1920 m) on mountain ridges and valleys.
