Research vessel Dan Moore station logs, 1968-1981

Public

  • The R/V DAN MOORE, an 85 foot steel stern trawler, collected over 4,400 samples during service with the North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries (NC DMF), 1968-1981. The vessel’s purpose was to conduct applied research to enable the Division to manage and develop coastal fisheries resources for the benefit of all North Carolinians. Objectives of individual cruises included gear tests, fish tagging, relative abundance and distribution surveys, biological investigations (i.e., age and growth), bottom type surveys, and many others. Information collected consisted of location, environmental, and catch data. Results of cruises were summarized in bulletins from 1968-1974. Complete cruise reports describing methods and results were filed for the remaining cruises.
