  • We used force platform analyses to generate biomechanical data on maximal jumping performance in three genera of callitrichine. We coupled performance data with high-resolution micro-CT data quantifying bony features thought to reflect jumping ability.

    Jumping performance data were collected from December 2021 to August 2022 on callitrichine monkeys housed in captivity at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo (i.e., CMZ; Cleveland, OH, USA). Morphological measurements were realised from CT scans available on MorphoSource (www.morphosource.org) during the Summer 2023.     We designed and used an apparatus for measuring biomechanical outputs of upward vertical jumping. We tested two female pied tamarins (Saguinus bicolor), one female and one male Goeldi’s monkeys (Callimico goeldii), and one female and two male white-fronted marmosets (Callithrix geoffroyi). Two small animal force plates were used to record ground reaction forces (SRF) during the push-off phase of the jump. Other measures of mechanical output were calculated from SRF measurement and individual body mass using a custom MATLAB program. Material and methods are described in *Boulinguez-Ambroise et al.     To assess the degree to which different performance abilities could be associated with different skeletal morphologies, we took a variety of measurements on two samples of callitrichines.
    Sample 1 included complete specimens: we took a set of 50 measurements quantifying aspects of forelimbs, hindlimbs, pelvis, and trunk vertebrae.
    Sample 2(representing hands and feet): we took a subset of these measures and were able to include length measurements for the bones of the pollex and hallux.
    Measurements were taken using the ruler tool in Avizo 3D (Thermofisher Scientific) or with calipers for some of the individuals in the second sample.
