- An interview with Laila Brown by Diya Patel. Conducted on November 20, 2021 via Phone. Laila Brown (she/her) is a 16-year-old junior in high school from Vicksburg, Mississippi. She co-founded 601 for Period Equity, a grassroots organization that advocates, educates, and provides to eliminate period poverty. Laila has also worked with Teen Health Mississippi’s Youth Council to advocate for comprehensive sex education. She is also a student ambassador at the Pad Project and a part of the Homegirl Project’s editorial team. Laila is dedicated to using her advocacy to fighting period poverty and educating people about misogynoir.
