  • An interview with Yumi Mizobuchi conducted via Zoom by Emily Wang on November 16, 2023. Yumi Mizobuchi (she/her) is an environmental justice activist and current freshman at Duke University. Her interest in activism came from a climate research project she had conducted on the environmental effects of synthetic textile dyes. After realizing the importance of climate justice in relation to her research, Mizobuchi joined the Hawaii Youth Climate Coalition and supported students from public high schools in creating environmental clubs. At Duke, she currently leads the outreach efforts for the student organization Duke Climate Coalition (DCC) that is campaigning for the university to divest approximately $200 million of its endowment from fossil fuels.
